7 October 2011: RBST Show at the York Auction Centre (before the Sale) For a remarkable third year in a row a Llanwenog was judged Interbreed Champion at this show (it is getting embarrassing!). This year it was a yearling ewe bred by Philip Hodges (Charndon flock). The Llanwenogs were entered in the ‘Down Breeds’ Section this year competing with Southdowns and White Faced Woodlands. The three Llanwenog yearling ewes claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the ewe class and the section Championship before going on to win the interbreed line up against a Jacob (Hill & Heath), Greyfaced Dartmoor (Longwool) and a Hebridean (Primative). 30 Sept 2011: RBST Show at Rugby Market, Stoneleigh (before the Sale) Llanwenogs from the Charndon flock were entered in the ‘Hill & Heath’ section and were judged 1st for a Yearling Ewe, 1st for Yearling Ram and 2nd for a Ram Lamb. The Yearling Ram was then judged Champion for Hill & Heath Section and then Reserve Best in Show. 17-18th September 2011: Royal Berkshire show at Newbury The Hodges’ (Charndon flock) where showing on both days. On Saturday the ‘Other Pure Native Breeds’ section was well attended with many of the mainstream breeds, including Suffolks.The Llanwenog Shearling Ram was 1st (class of 12 entries), the Ram Lamb was 4th (of 12), Ewe was 4th (of 17) and Ewe lamb was 3rd (of 19). On Sunday, the LLanwenog was eligible for the ‘Hill and Heath’ section again classes were well attended with strong competition. The Llanwenog results were: Shearling Ram 5th (class of 12), Ram lamb 3rd (of 12), Ewe 4th (in a huge class of 23!), Ewe lamb 2nd (of 16) and finally in the Groups the Llanwenog was judged 5th out of 17 traditional breeds (all of whom braved the pouring rain and were thoroughly soaked!) 10 Sept 2011 : Romsey Show Margaret Brain (Whiteparish flock) judged at this show last year – however, this year she entered some Llanwenog young stock in the Hill, Mountain or Longwool classes and was awarded 1st and 3rd place with Ram Lambs and 2nd and 4th with Ewe lambs. 25 August 2011: Monmouthshire Show This is the third year that dedicated Llanwenog Classes have been held at the show; with 23 entries in 5 classes from 5 exhibitors it is the largest attendance yet. The Champion Llanwenog was awarded to Gareth Evans 2 year old ewe who has consistently been highly placed in the ring. See the main society site for the full results.Society members were also spotted judging the Black Welsh Mountain Classes and taking the Championship in the Other Native Breed class with a Beulah Speckled Face ram! 13 August 2011: Ellingham and Ringwood Show A ram lamb from Margaret Brain’s Whiteparish flock had a clean sweep at this show winning the Short Wool Class and then triumphed as the overall livestock championship. 11 Aug 2011: Okehampton Show Lawrence Jones, Blackhall flock had a good performance in the Rare, Minority & Primitive Breeds classes. There were six breeds competing in this category all classes were well supported with up to 20 exhibitors. 1st Hogg (yearling) Ram and 5th older Ram 1st 2 Tooth (yearling) Ewe 2nd Group of Three Also, 3rd in Butcher's lambs class (Llanwenog X Beltex) up to 38 kg 7 August 2011: Gilsland Agricultural Society Show Three Llanwenog Ewes from the Lesser Moorguards flock were exhibited in the Rare and Native Breeds Section alongside Shetlands. A Llanwenog Shearling won the Best Female class and went on to be judged Rare and Native Breed Champion. The judge, Jane Wilson is familiar with the Llanwenog as she is a fellow breeder (Winkwell Flock). As an aside, this yearling is the same animal which caught Jill Bennett’s eye as a lamb during her Northern tour last year. 4 August 2011: Tenbury Countryside Show The Bomfords (Sale Green 397) entered an aged Ram into the Mountain and Moorland Section – and were pleased with their 4th place in the face of strong competition from a Jacob and Kerry Hills. 28th July 2011: New Forest Show
Mrs Margaret Brain (Whiteparish Flock) took first prize in the ewe lamb and both ewe classes. She then went on to win Reserve Champion in the Hill and Heath Section (with the Ewe Lamb).
27 July 2011: Chulmleigh Old Fair Sheep Show Lawrence Jones’ (Blackhall Flock) had some success in the Any Other Native Breed Section. 2nd in the Ram Shearling or Older Bred by Exhibitor class, 3rd in the Ram Shearling or Older class. And for his Beltex X Llanwenog Lambs an impressive 1st & 2nd in the Butcher's Lambs up to 40kg class, for which we also got the W.S.Hayes cup
18th July 2011: ROYAL WELSH SHOW
They forecast rain but remarkably the weather was kind to the show men and women. Llanwenogs were in the ring at midday. The judge was David Henson (Bradden Flock) who had a challenging task as all the classes were very well represented with top notch stock from 12 exhibitors. Overall champion went to Huw Evans older Ram, with Gareth Evans’ older Ewe taking reserve. You can find out more on the LLanwenog Sheep Society website.
The additional bonus this year was a film crew from BBC Wales who were shadowing the Jenkins family to demonstrate how to prepare sheep for such a show. The piece went on air on Monday 18th July and can be seen on the BBC iplayer (search for Royal Welsh episode 1 – the Llanwenog footage appears at the end of the half hour show).
17 July 2011: Weald & Downland Museum: Rare & Traditional Breeds Show, Singleton Jackie Webb, Keepers Flock made an impression at this show with the Reserve Champion for the sheep interbreed class with a ewe lamb and 2nd prize in the ram lamb class. The same ewe lamb cleaned the board at the Small Shepherds Club Annual Show this year. It was Supreme Champion, best in show. 1st in ewe lamb class. 1st in rare breeds class. Best pair in ram and ewe class. 17 – 19 June 2011: Three Counties Show, Malvern

Llanwenogs were eligible for the Hill, Heath and Upland section on Saturday, the Rare & Minority Breeds day. There were two breeders in attendance and the day proved to be rather a success for the breed and Jill Bennett, Tallantire Flock in particular: 1st & 2nd - Shearling ewe class and overall Section Champion – Jill Bennett, Tallantire

The Small holders show is the first of the season and is held indoors. This year there was a dedicated Llanwenog class judged by Elfyn Morgans on the Sunday. The sheep had to be shorn and the classes were well supported with 7 exhibitors and in the popular yearling classes, many exhibitors had two entries making an impressive line-up and attracting a good crowd.
