The number of Llanwenog sheep has declined in recent years. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust 2020 Watchlist show the number of registered breeding ewes has fallen below 3000. The Llanwenog has remained Category 5 (Minority) since 2016 after moving into Category 6 in 2008.
